  1. There is no cost involved if you DONATE it. That is only if you want to store it for your own possible future use (which is not worth the money or trouble). The American Academy of Pediatrics even discourages storing it for personal use and encourages donating to the National Cord Blood Bank (http://www.guideline.gov/summary/summary...

    You do need to know that this (donating) takes pre-planning. Most places can't get everything done they need to get done unless you start by your 34th week.

    My daughter's life was saved by a single unit of cord blood. You can read my Thank You letter to her donor under 'source'.


  2. i called viacord and they said it's $2200 (or close, can't remember exactly) to get signed up and then $125 per yr to store it. you can pay installments i believe. call them, they were very nice and helpful. i think they're website is viacord.com
