  1. Not much information, but here is what I tell most with this type of request. The cost of installation is very expensive. You must have a back up form of heat. If you install a regular type of heat, you don't have these problems. One service call on the geothermal unit ruins the savings. Simple saves money. How green is that?

Recent estimates I have heard of in the NE for A ground source heat pump using 2 wells was around 10 to $20000.00 US.  Why the big difference?  What are you heating?  How big is the loop.  Are you using a closed loop in one well that has to be dug or in a lake that doesn't?

The pay off is better if you are balancing not only a new heating system but central air and you have existing ductwork.

Keep in mind that it is an extremely efficient system.  In ground temperatures are a steady 50 to 55 deg F.   One person told me that her system allowed her to spend no more than $200 each month for heat, AC, and electricity combined.  With expected fuel oil costs this winter, this kind of system might pay for itself within 3 years.  You will have to talk to your local contractors.

One person who was operating with solar collectors found that the expense was not worth the money.  They thought they would have been better off spending more on solar collectors and simply using resistance electric heating (cheap to install.)
