Question:

What is the cost of a good quality car paint job?

My old Integra needs a new color. I've never gotten a paint job before, and I want to be sure that I get a good quality one. I know that all places have different prices for different reason, so what should I make sure the detailer has/uses/does? What kind of paint should I be looking for them to use? What colors cost more/less than others?

Any help at all would be great. :)

  1. not the colour necessarily that dictates the price but the preperation, type of paint and finish.

make sure that they remove as much body trim as possible, clean the paint prior to sanding the car down.  they shuld use a high build primer compatable with the top coat and sand between coats.  block sanding is an absolute must to make sure the panels are absolutely flat.

edit: changing colour not recommended since the door jambs, under hood and trunk will require painting so that it doesn't look crappy.  stick with original colour.

application of the colour coat only when all defects are out followed with severval coats of clear.

the clear should be wet sanded and bufed and polished prior to reattaching any trim removed.

any over spray should be cleaned off prior to delivery to the customer.

  2. A good paint job?

    $5,000.

    A crappy one at Maaco?

    $500

  3. depends on the number of layers, the type of paint, the amount of body panels that have to be removed for painting.

If you do the same color ontop it is usualy cheaper, probably $800

  4. a real nice one  will cost you about 12-1500 bucks to get it done right, the cost of paint has gone up along with the cost of gas,but for a god job it will cost at least 1200 for good job on it providing it has no body work to do to it they charge extra for doing that, good luck.
