Currently in the US the average cost is between 5800.00 to 7800.00 to get your private pilot rating. It really depends on you as to how long etc... it takes you to get your rating.

You can get a Private Pilot Certificate.  It should run between $6,000 and $8,000 depending on where you are.

I'd call up your local airport, and meet with a flight instructor.  He (or she) can give you a better idea of what's involved.

They should also have an intro flight you can pay for, and actually go up with an instructor, usually for about 30 minutes.

Oh, and for all the folks out there, there is no such thing as a 'Pilot's License'...  It's a Certificate... It's only a 'License' to learn.  I have one.

In the United States currently, it will cost between $6,000 and $9,000 inclusive, unless you have special arrangements, on the order of having a family member who owns an airplane and will give you a break on rental rates.

And the time to get started is now, as the rates for everything are going up with the price of fuel.
