Question:

What is the cost of global warming?

I am doing a paper right now for a college class. My theory about global warming is that it doesn't matter whether or not it is happening because the cost of it happening when we do nothing about it will be greater than the cost if we do something and it isn't happening. It is basically a better safe than sorry, argument, but I need to find numbers to help me determine if my theory is correct. I'm not sure how to go about finding the estimated cost of human lives/resources/land if we do nothing and the worst case scenario comes true. I also don't know where to find estimates of cost if we take the proper preventative measures to reverse the damage. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

  1. this is the cost of global warming http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AmdazwAc...

  2. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.ht...

I'm having a hard time finding exact numbers but if you look at www.noaa.gov you can find reports on increased energy for heating/ cooling and other things like that.

I've heard this argued before and I think it's a valid argument. You may not be able to find numbers because I don't think anyone knows. You should try looking for data on what costs have already increased. I'm sure there's stuff out there.

  3. simple: earth dies, you die, i die, we all die

    what a happy ending eh?

  4. The cost of global warming is many skin cancers caused by UV which will cause lives. Another thing is our ozone is weakening and many which lets UV sun light and is already happening now.

  5. We will all die of skin cancer.... whoopie

  6. summary of the stern report;

stern now thinks he underestimated the cost of climate change.

this chap is great! he does a diagram of what you are saying (the precautionary principle)

  7. The cost of global warming is the irreversible effects on the climate. And the loss of about 1/3 of the land animal and plant species. And the destroying of individual climates of certain regions. For example as global temperature increase the permafrost melts and the land literally collapses. Another study showed that as the ice on the polar ice caps melt and all of that freshwater is released into the ocean it unbalances the ratio between salt and water in the world's oceans; this change will cause the Gulf Stream to basically stop causing the climate on the Northeast coast of the U.S. to be like Alaska. Global warming doesn't mean that everything everywhere is getting warmer by the same amount it means that as the global temperature increase even just a little bit the balance of the functions in the world's climate is thrown off and extremely drastic changes are made to the climate.

  8. lets make it simple

low lands like islands will disapper,

people will die, they'll be more hurricanes

and serve storms, animals will die, the artic

will melt, it will get warmer, and the world is

screwed well its going to be in a like 5 years

  9. My answer would be way to long to put on here but watch An Inconvenient Truth, or goin to http://www.climatecrisis.net/, http://www.algore.com/, or http://www.greenpeace.org/international/... All these have great info on global warming and climate change.

  10. You are on the wrong side of this issue. Already the cost of "doing something, no matter how stupid" is affecting not only the poor but the rain forests. Remember, government laws generate the opposite of the desired results. It is inevitable when you have people who are so idiotic trying to control human nature by legislation.

And most environmental wackos say we have done not nearly enough. Consider all the horrendous effects already without doing much. Just imagine when the price of energy starts to double or triple once they implement their brain dead ideas. If you are complaining about gas prices now, wait till the next President starts to implement cap and trade.

And here are some cost studies which amounts to over $10,000 PER family. Maybe your parents should save your college tuition to pay for these new taxes?

  11. OK - Russian scientist and the Dutch Space agency have determined that the Sun is what causes all warming on Earth.

Now how much do we spend to turn down the Sun?  These are natural cycles.  They happened before, they'll happen again.

The money we spend today is money not spent on other needed services, like education and health care.
