What is the cost of living in puerto rico? whats the differnece between PR and the States?

I think it's more expensive.  When I first took the boat to the Caribbean, I stayed at San Juan for a couple of months and the prices for housing was, I thought, excessive.  Just a simple apartment in S.J. is going to cost you $800 to $1500 a month for anything decent and safe.  Caguas is inland and smaller so it may be cheaper but when I saw the prices at Fajardo, I just kept heading the boat East.

San Juan is the city & its just like any big city in the states. Expensive. It has good parts & bad parts & the good parts are high. In small towns on the island the housing prices are much cheaper, but less people speak english & there are less jobs. The problem about PR is there arent many jobs & the jobs that there are pay less than the states. Unless you have some other type of money coming in, it will be hard. You will need to speak spanish & most likely have a degree. The Pharmacuetical industry is good here.  Caguas is a nice area. Its cheaper than San Juan but still slightly higher than central towns. Bills are less, food is the same, cars are more but insurance & stuff is less, gas is the same. Check this site for housing prices

PR its a bit more expensive than the states, compared to florida, its more expensive, compared to new york, its way cheaper. it all depends ur living expenses cost. if u want to live in san juan its going to be very expensive, if u live in the central countryside of the island its cheaper. there is a 7 percent tax rate and food, cigs,drinks and gas costs right now its high. u may want to check, the sanjuanstar or el nuevo dia newspapers, and kind out more about puerto rico cost of living.
