What is the cost of making a 20 oz. soft drink bottle and a 12 oz can.

I am a high school math teacher and I am wanting to have my students find out how much it costs to make a bottle or can by finding the surface area...so if anyone knows the price of aluminum or plastic (per square unit) or where I could find that out that would be greatly appreciated

You may want to email or call a company that makes cans or bottles.  I do know from working in the food industry that when an item is bought in bulk, the price per pound will decrease depending on how much is bought.  For example, an aluminum vender may have a special price if a canning company buys a 100 pounds of aluminum instead of 50 pounds.

You may want to research the AVERAGE price per pound for a given year in the manufactoring industry.
