  1. When I was on Trinidad doing an impact study on a proposed highway, somebody took me out to walk the route. We stepped over a small stream. My guide called my attention to it and then told me that ships used to come up the body of water we had just stepped over. Erosion and sedimentation had filled it in.

  2. Erosion, causing run off of soil, animal waste, and pesticides.

Which all end up in our streams!  The number one water pollutant in Pennsylvania is "sendimentation". This is a problem being addressed but more needs to be done. And there is also erosion caused by Japanese Knotweed, an ivasive species with vigorous growth that shades out all other plants along streambanks, once again causing erosion along the banks and sendimentation in the streams.  A real environmental disaster.

  3. In one word it is 'inestimable'.
