I will be moving from Connecticut to Mumbai. I wanted to to know the approximate charge for shipping a few items(Sofa, loveseat, Computer desk, chair, end tables, 4-5 medium boxes). Do you know what is the rate per pound of shipping to mumbai?

  1. First you need to decide whether you want to use a freight carrier or a company like UPS or Fed Ex. The two things to consider when deciding which method to use are time and cost.

A lot of freight companies, as well as companies like UPS/Fed Ex have shipping calculators on their websites. They can also tell you approximately how long it will take for your items to arrive. Just type in the approximate lbs and/or size of each item/box, and the shipping cost should pop right up for you. It may not be exact (depending on how close you are with your measurements), but will give you a good estimate.

I don't think UPS/Fed Ex will take things as large as a sofa or love seat) so your best option (price-wise) may be to freight your furniture and UPS/Fed Ex your boxes. Unless you can somehow attach your boxes to your couch - depending on their size - (setting the boxes on the seat of the couch and love seat and then wrapping really well with that plastic wrap shipping stuff) and freight all your stuff together.

Hopefully the link I've included below will give you a place to start. Good luck on such a huge move...talk about culture shock!! :)

  2. charges would be too high. in those charges you can buy best of the quality house hold stuff in Mumbai.

unless, the items which u have in Connecticut is related to some memory or antic, sell it there and buy new in Mumbai.
