Let said if i take a train from Milano Centrale to Como S. Giovanni. How much would it cost? What about the cost to take a boat ride down the lake? Any places of interest to recommend? I need details of these as I going to travel there this march. I never been there before so as much details as possible would be appreciated.

  1. I usually travel with the FNM trains...If you are in Milano Centrale station, you can take the subway to Milano Cadorna station (a couple of minutes, E1,00). Here you can take the train to Como Lago, it costs about E5,00.

  2. I research and book all Italy tickets on line the at the official Italian Railway website:

www.trenitalia.com (click the English icon in the upper right corner if you prefer) The prices on all Italian trains vary from trip to trip, depending on the type of train, plus first and second class. Click around and see the choices, R, IC, ES, CIS, etc. from slow to fast. I recommend the most direct route available between your two cities. Stopping at every stop does not allow better sightseeing and the on and off traffic is annoying. Eurostar (ES) rarely costs more than the slower trains and is nicer and faster. Sometimes it is even cheaper! Depending on your budget, first is a safer bet for relaxation, but is not always that different from second class. They both arrive at the same time.  ;-) Riding in second is not dangerous or anything to worry about, just may be a younger, louder, less affluent crowd. If you want to experience the culture, ride second. If you want to read in peace, ride first. About a third of the nicer trains are first class cars.

Not sure if you are flying into Milano or not, but if so, be aware that the train from Malpensa Aeroporto does not go to Centrale Stazione, but Cadorna Nord instead. It would then be a taxi or metro to Centrale. There IS a private bus service from Malpensa Aeroporto directly to Centrale, go downstairs after arrival. No reservations necessary.

Boat rides on the lake vary depending on the season and length of the ride, etc. Look on Como websites. (Google).
