What is the course rating ans slope. And how do i find out what my course rating is ?

  1. The rating and slope are generally posted on the scorecard.  The rating is what an "expert" golfer is expected to shoot on the course.  For example if it is a par 72 the rating might be 70.5 meaning an expert probably would be one or two under par.  The slope rating is a way of comparing one course to another and is determined by a team of people who go out and play the course.  The slope difficulty takes into account the placement of bunkers and other hazards, difficulty of greens etc.  With the slope rating charts are derived showing what your handicap will be at a given course.  In other words if you are a 10 handicap at your course and it is a fairly easy course (low slope rating) and you go play at a much more difficult course (high slope rating), your handicap is adjusted up to maybe a 12 or so.


  2. To put it in the simplest of terms it's the degree of difficulty of a golf course.  To get a course's slope rating just look on the score card.
