  1. The craziest thing I can think of is how the UN sat idly by while the genocide in Rwanda raged-on in 1994.  Then, after the main violence was over, Kofi Annan, head of Peacekeeping Operations at the time, finally bothered to visit.  Kofi was appalled by what had taken place there, expressed regret that preventative action wasn't taken, and vowed, "never again".

Kofi and the UN won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 "for their work for a better organized and more peaceful world".  Here comes the really funny part...

As Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan sat impotently by while another genocide developed in 2003 and rages on to this day in Darfur.  I guess the world is more organized and peaceful when you allow bullies to exterminate all the people that don't fit-in.

  2. Read John Bolton's new book. You'll find plenty of answers to your question.

  3. Craziest thing? "The meeting will come to order".

  4. I dunno, I think the whole Kruschev pounding the desk with his shoe thing was pretty good.  Nothing like watching a fat drunk get upset over something.

Or the time when Russia "boycotted" the UN Security Council meeting and it was the only time in the UN history the US was able to pass the resolution to help out with the Korean Conflict.  From then on, the Russia delegate was never late to any meetings, EVER.

  5. Kruschev  pounding his shoe on the podium at the UN...

Gorbachev never did any such thing.

  6. This latest global warming joke is one.
