What is the cue sport with mushroom shaped objects on the table?

My Dad said when he was young there was a game with mushroom/ pinball shaped objects on the table where you had to score points by hitting them with different balls similar to billiards with no pockets. Early 1950s roughly.What is this game and how come you don't see it anymore?

That is called bumper pool,

EDIT-Bumper pool usually had a hole, on each side, between two "mushrooms",and object was to go of rail and make your ball, in this hole. first done was winner. you could go of mushroom too.
