The colones is about 500 colones for $1 give or take last time I checked.  Since then the dollar has been free falling so it may be less.

The currency in Costa Rica is the colon.  There is about 497 colones to the dollar but this changes on a near daily basis.  The latest currency rates can be found on www.xe.com as well as the tico times lists the currency rates as well.

It's called "colon" or "colones" and the rate is $1 US = 494 colones.
