What is the current going rate for babysitters?

I'm 19 years old and work in a gated/private community (VERY expensive!). I have had numerous couples ask me to babysit.

What should I charge per hour? Does it matter how many kids there are? Should the amount of money they have be a factor?

  1. 7.50-10.00 an hour maybe

  2. $8.00 for 1-2 kids per hour and $10.00 for more that 2 kids. It really depends on what you feel is right but this is the average.

    Good luck.

  3. It depends on the area, the amount of children, their ages, what needs to be done and your experience. I have a 19yr babysitter with 4yrs of experience who watch 3/4 of my kids, (which is basically to keep them entertained and safe) and I her $12hr.

Somewhere in the ball park of $8-10hr for 2-3 kids for them to go out one evening should be fine. If you're doing chores around the house, making meals, staying for long periods of time etc, I'd add another dollar or two.

  4. government rates for ohio for state certified caregivers is $3 per child per hour. But I personally sit for $35 per week plus groceries. and I watch several kids. just talk to the parents because some make more money than others and can afford more than others. be flexible but don't get taken advantage of.
