Deer cause the most human death and injury per year in the US, mostly from people hitting them with cars but also from unprovoked attacks.

Also quite deadly is the platypus. The what? The platypus. While you're busy laughing at it, it will sneak up on you and chomp you. And the bugger is venomous. Yeah. Made out of spare parts, much?

We were expecting a big fearsome creature like the crocodile, lion, or shark to be the most deadly. However, the real number-one killer is much smaller and far more annoying -- the mosquito.

But what if you don't count the mosquito as an actual animal? In that case, it appears the hippopotamus is the deadliest. This article by Allan Taylor states, "More people are killed by the hippopotamus than any other wild animal, either by being trampled to death or having their boat capsized."

Seemingly innocent, it takes over one's home and subjects a member of another species to a lifelong tyranny.  It's its own master, goes its own way, is very demanding and shows love only when it is good and ready.  It does not welcome strangers of any species into its home except under pretence.

In addition, it does not pay taxes, does not vote, and crosses streets against traffic lilghts.
