I don't really understand the whole Gold Medal/Greatest Olympian/Most Golds or something with Michael Phelps. I need someone who COMPLETELY understands this to explain this to me.

  1. The current record for gols medals by a swimmer in one olympics is held by the Australian Mark Spitz who won 8, not sure which year. Last olympics (Athens) Phelps claimed he would beat this record but only won 6 golds. The media is putting the hype on Phelps succesfully winning 8 golds this olympics. If Phelps does win he'll also recieve a 1 million dollar bonus from speedo. Hope this helps

  2. Well the Record in the Olympics is 9 gold medal so far, he wants to beat that record. Before this Olympic he had 6.. or was it 7? Gold medals, he was going for 8 but didn't make it i think so this time he is going for 8.

  3. The record right now for most gold medals at a single Olympic games is 7 by swimmer Mark Spitz. If Phelps wins all of his events in these Olympics, he will get 8 gold medals. Simply put, Phelps is trying to win the most gold medals ever.

  4. OK i will try my best to explain, Michael Phelps just became the greatest olympian that ever lived, he won a total of 9 gold medals. These gold medals includes both the Athens and Beijing games. But he wants to win 8 gold medals in an individual olympics, that will make him the only sportsman in history to have that many gold medals at a olympics game, so far he won 3 gold medals at the Beijing games and need 5 more to go. I did my best i hope you understand.

  5. he wants to win 8 gold medals in the bejiing olympics this year. in the last summer olympics (at athens), his goal was 8, but he only got 6. so this time, he is fully going for it!!
