I live in an area where Time Warner is the sole provider of cable TV services, and their market position here is more than reflected in inflated pricing schemes and apathetic customer care. The area (Research Triangle in NC) is populous enough that, in theory, it should provide fertile ground for competition.
While looking around for alternatives (there are none), I noticed that "competitors" were all too happy to direct me to Time Warner when they discovered where I live. Maybe it's great customer care, but wouldn't a true competitor not roll out the red carpet for its rival?
Anyway, does anyone know whether all the major companies are in cahoots with each other to divide up the US and hose their respective customers? If so, does anyone in Congress care? Are there smaller companies left out of this scheme that care? What's going on here?
