Question:

What is the deal with "Snitching"?

If a family member or close friend is victimized, say shot or beaten so badly they were hospitalized, wouldn't you want to know who did it? Wouldn't you want someone to step up and say "I know who did it."?

Also, if you new someone who killed a person and the police were looking for them, would you report them? Say you find out your friend or family member was involved in a drive-by that killed a child with a stray bullet.

  1. where you ever called a "tattle tale" as a child. same concept.

of course if a friend was victimized i would want to know who did it...

i may snitch on someone who shot a child..

you have to understand some people  deal with illegal things on a daily basis... for instance if someone steals all your drugs and your non-registered guns what are you going to do? call the police?   or go out and kill someone?

people keep their mouth shut because in some cases they know that someone in the neighborhood is known as a theif, or he/she knew what was coming to them..

  2. Well... pardon me... but there is a HUGE difference between childhood "tattle-tales" and giving pertinent information to the authorities about a SHOOTING, for crying out loud!

Thankfully, I have never had to be in that situation, but I would likely inform the authorities of what I knew (not "new," please!).

People who attempt to intimidate others by accusing them of "snitching" is likely, themselves, perpetrators of violent acts.  Of course they would want to "quiet" others.  Although I am unsure if such "shushing" is against the law, threatening someone IS against the law.  So, if someone threatens another in their attempts to intimidate them, they ARE themselves guilty of a crime, and should be arrested.

    Have a polite day.

  3. 1st, I wouldn't live in a neighborhood like that. I recommend leaving.

2nd, no one likes a rat. If the wrong person finds out they weer snitched on, the snitcher may be in for some hurt of their own.

3rd. Blood is thicker than water. I'd never snitch family.

4th. If I was a witness to a crime, and it wasn't my family that did it, and I just had to testify for evidence, then yes I would. That is "civic minded"

  4. It depends! But me i'll keep my mouth shut. never rat and u won't get your tail cut off.

  5. oh  yeah  i  am  totally  civic  minded  that  way.  i  would  say  what  i  knew  regardless  who it  implicated.  but  i  might  just  approach  the  guilty  party  and  let  them  know  that  other  people  already  know  and  if  he/she  doesnt come clean then  i  will  report  them.

  6. I loved Lewisimo's response: "Blood is thicker than water. I'd never snitch family."

So, I guess that means that if a member of MY family victimized you or your mom, you wouldn't mind if I didn't rat them out...  there are a lot of flaws in your logic.  Frankly, I wouldn't trust you any further than I could throw you.

And, that's my answer.  If YOU were the victim, what would you want to happen.  The only people who don't like snitches are perpetrators and so, who cares about the "morality" views of a criminal anyway...

  7. Being called a tattle tail or a rat really doesn't matter in my opinion. It's all about doing the right thing, if that means that you have to tell on someone, the so be it. Telling the authorities about a criminal can only help our society. That being said, I believe snitching goes both ways, sharing both negative or positive information.

  8. Calling someone a snitch is a form of intimidation. They threaten you so that you are afraid to go to the police.
