What is the deal with the new GM electric vehicle, the "Volt" ? Why haven't I heard more about it ? ?

  1. The Chevy Volt is still a concept car.

  2. It's just part of GM's greenwashing strategy, similar to selling massive hybrid SUVs.  GM makes 'green' concept cars and then never produces them, so they can appear environmentally friendly, while it's really just business as usual.

  3. its a sales gimmick and there are 30,000 already on a list to buy the piece of trash.

There's been a ton of media coverage about it.  The Volt is a plug-in hybrid (a.k.a range extended vehicle) which will be able to go 40 miles on purely electric before the gas kicks in and it runs in hybrid mode.  It's probably going to cost around $40k and will be available in late 2010 if it remains on schedule.
