  1. HI, there are mainly two factors:

    1. The total dissolved solids in the water. if this value is greater than the allowable value, then RO plant as well as Deminralization plant can be used.

    2. The flow of water, RO plant is normally used for lower flows. I have seen the biggest RO plant of capacity 30,000 lit/hr whereas deminralization plants of upto 800,000 lit/hr.

There are many more factors but these are the most important. Other are the specific quantities of all types of dissolved solids, most important sodium and silica.

Hpe this is helpful. Keep smiling. Bye.

  2. *TDS[total dissolved solids],Industrial application,Need,Source water,cost and many more.

*In some cases RO water is required for DM water plant.

*The membranes used for reverse osmosis have a dense barrier layer in the polymer matrix where most separation occurs. In most cases the membrane is designed to allow only water to pass through this dense layer while preventing the passage of solutes (such as salt ions). This process requires that a high pressure be exerted on the high concentration side of the membrane, usually 2–17 bar (30–250 psi) for fresh and brackish water, and 40–70 bar (600–1000 psi) for seawater, which has around 24 bar (350 psi) natural osmotic pressure which must be overcome.

-RO water is water without chemicals and has very few dissolved solids. It tastes good, keeps your plumbing in good shape, and eliminates the spots and coatings on your shower wall, sinks, toilet and faucets. Your hot water tank and anode will last longer (no chemicals or dissolved solids to attack these parts). Used in third world countries membranes eliminate bacteria and some viruses. The RO systems are usually easier to maintain than water softening units.
