What is the deepest water you can drive through?

My driveway is flooded thanks to hurricane Fay! I got to go to work, can I drive my car through this?

Its about 10" deep, I know its stable

  1. Your vehicle would handle it but I would not do it for the fact that you don't know if the road is stable, just wait until the water goes down....


  2. Can you, most likely. Should you? How do you know it's stable. Have you walked it? Can you see under water? Does it have a current, how much. If you do chance it, and I am sure you will, or have by now, go SLOW. You don't know what's under that water, a hole? A tree limb? Your neighbors dog? Even your neighbor.  

  3. Is the water entering the cab of the car? Is the tail pipe submerged? Does your intake come low enough where it could suck up water? Check these things out, but the water on the breaks can effect your stopping ability. I wouldn't chance it.  

  4. i have driven a sports coupe through worse than that.

    as long as you know the path is clear, you should be ok.

    take a short run up, do about 15mph.

    keep the car in second gear and the revs high to prevent the engine stalling.

    when you get out the other side, use the brakes a couple of times to dry them off
