  1. I can sure tell you are a guy and your mom would not let you into the kitchen, except to

    eat.

Cookie Sheet:  A thin sheet of metal about

18"X20" that goes in the oven.  You put your

cookie dough on there and when its' done,

    you remove the cookies.

Whisk:  This has thin but sturdy wires that

are rounded and bent upwards with a handle

on top.  This is for whipping eggs, sauces,

puddings, or incorporating any thin ingredients.

Spatula:  Either metal or plastic.  Almost

like a kitchen knife but shorter and thicker.

Used to butter bread, put cake icing on cake,

scrape bowls of batter, spreading any kind of spread onto breads, crackers, etc.

saucepan:  Usually about a 1 or 2 qt stove

top pan, used for making sauces (or heating

    any food.)

Strainer:  You pour food and liquid into the

strainer.  The liquid comes out, the food stays.  It has a screen or small holes and

    a handle.

Sifter:  In making baked goods (not needed

anymore).  Used to be needed to sift out the

lumps and/or other debris in flour.  Also to

aerate the flour to make it lighter when making a cake.

  2. A cookie sheet is usually made of a light weight aluminum steel. It is about 9" x 12" in size. The 9" sides are typically folded up some while the other two are flat. Most found today are precoated for better release and less sticking.

When it comes to a whisk, it helps to know the definition of the word whisk its self. A whisk is an implement, usually a bunch of stainless steel wire loops held together in a handle made of metal, wood, or other materials. It is used for beating and whipping such things as eggs and cream.

A straight edge spatula is made of  a flexible stainless steel blade with straight edges and rounded ends and wooden handle. The materials can differ though. A good one will have the blade riveted into the handle. This type of spatula is great for scraping batter out of a bowl, icing baked goods, and even as a leveler when measuring ingredients.

A saucepan is a matal container of moderate depth, most having a long handle and sometimes a cover. It is used for stewing, boiling, etc. There are many types of metal sacepans and variety of handles to accompany them. There are also different styles based on their non-stick ability.

Most strainer consist of a mesh material in a bowl like shape to hold items. The mesh is held in a rim attached to a handle. The handle can once again be made of several different materials. The best being silcone which is great at handlign the heat. To strain means to filter or sieve from a liquid, and that is exactly what these do.

A sifter is a kitchen implement used for sifting such things as flour and sugar. It puts the dry ingredient through the device in order to seperate the fine from the coarse particles.

I hope this is helpful, but learn the means of a dictionary. They are very helpful as well. I have also provided a few pictures. Although I am sure you have seen a few of these items before.

    Good luck on you paper!
