I am very interested in attending school to become a wedding planner, It's something I think I would thoroughly enjoy. My questions is How much on average do wedding planners make? What are the hours.. and what is the demand for them?

If you happen to be a wedding planner.. Do you enjoy it or do you wish you would have chosen a different path?

All answers are appreciated! Thanks!=]

  1. Wedding planners can make a LOT of money, however, I don't know about the demand for them because they are so expensive... I personally do not know anyone who has ever had a wedding planner because it is cheaper to plan a wedding by yourself.

  2. If you contact Stratford Career Institute, they have an excellent Wedding Planner course. It is fairly inexpensive, about $600.00 and you can make payments. You take the tests online.

A wedding planner makes about 10% of the total cost of the wedding. It really pays to live in a big city because there are more people and money.

Since it is your own business, you would make your own hours.

My daughter and I both took the course and have done fairly well.

We only do weddings, but you can branch out to any aspect of the party planning business. We created several packages for the bride-to-be to choose from.

We love helping brides-to-be plan their weddings, it is so much fun.

If you have a full time job, it would be a good idea to do the wedding planning business as a 2nd job.  Most weddings are on Saturdays, and you can do most of your work on the weekends, if you have them off.

I have included our website for you to look at, it might give you some ideas.

You can email us if you like and we can answer any questions you might have.

    Good Luck to you.

  3. The demand for a wedding planner or coordinator is increasing in most places that I've researched and done a wedding.

An average is around $25,000 annually, yet that is also based on the amount of weddings you may do in a year & what you are giving your clients for them hiring you. A lot is really on how organized, time managed & your ability to handle stress.

I am a Wedding Coordinator and I really enjoy it. I get a lot of satisfaction in designing a wedding (or any event really) with my clients. And to be able to take on that task, with possible road bumps (say an parent is getting too involved or a possible situation with a vendor) is how you truly show your worth.

There are plenty of hours on your feet. And your first appearance is key; many do not like seeing someone not organized or even dressed for the meeting. I think an average day for me is about 12 hours on the main day. Roughly 50 hours in meetings & planning, the rehearsal & dinner and then the day itself is what I counted at my last wedding.

If you like to plan events or just weddings alone, are organized and willing to resolve the situations BEFORE the couple has to hear about it or see it, then take a look at the course.

    Good luck.

  4. With the economy going downhill and the price of weddings increasing, people are going to decrease in their use of wedding planners because they don't want to spend that much extra money when it's not necessary.

Sorry...you need a new plan! Maybe you could take public relations and event planning in school, though the same applies: companies will be using publicists and event planners less and making their current staff do it.

  5. I think the demand is becoming less and less because of things like www.theknot.com and all sorts of books on it.  It's so easy to plan your own now a days.
