What is the device cld that's attached to the surfer's hand?

it's like a cord of some sort & I don't know what it's cld.

does it have a purpose & what is it used for in surfing?

  1. Surprised someone told you about a wrist leash if that's what you are asking about.  The first leash developed by Jack O'Neill in Santa Cruz had a big suction cup and a flexible cord.  It attached on the nose of the board.  Unfortunately, after the cord stretched out, it pulled the board back, right into Jack's eye.  Nowadays leashes go on your ankle or your thigh.


  2. It's called a "surf leash," and I've always figured it was to keep the surfer save--if he/she falls off their board, they're still attached. Not only will they be more safe, but they won't lose their board!

    I've tossed in a link for a site a found about the history of the surf leash, and how old school boarders didn't use them. :) Make it a wonderful day.

  3. It's a leash, and it usually goes on your foot. When you fall, it keeps you near your board so you don't lose it or hit someone else with it.
