What is the dif/ between hip-hop and rap?

I've heard it said hip hop is dead,infact its the title of a Nas track. I've heard also heard that Hip-Hop is alive and true rap is on the decline, but i wonder. What distinguishes Hip-hop from rap music? Are Jay, Weezy, and Jeezy hip hop artist or are they rappers? I'm confused, help me clear things up plz.

Hip hop is a cultural movement that began among urban African American and Latino youth in New York. The four main elements of hip-hop are MCing, DJing, graffiti, and break-dancing. Some consider beat-boxing the fifth element of hip hop; others might add political activism, hip hop fashion, hip hop slang or other elements as important facets of hip hop. The term has since come to be a synonym for hip hop music and rap to mainstream audiences. They are not, however, interchangeable - rapping (MCing) is the vocal expression of lyrics in sync to a rhythm beneath it; along with DJing, rapping is a part of hip hop music.

Hence rapping is a part of hip hop.

It's true that rap and hip-hop are the same thing, but when it is seperated it's usually by the way it's sung. Hip-Hop usually is more radio friendly and has a dance feel. A normal Hip Hop song probally has 16 bars (Lines). Rap is more faster and has more energy, a rap song is almost always more than 16 lines and is normal to have around 100 lines.

Once again, Rap is a part of the Hip Hop culture. They're not different genres of Music.
