  1. None, a hard disk is another name for a hard drive. I have one, they are fast and much more efficient than a mini-CD camcorder.

    But keep in mind that best quality video comes from MiniDV tape based camcorders...

    HDD (hard disc drive) camcorders come up next in video quality (along with some of the higher-end flash memory based cams.

    Worst video quality comes from DVD based camcorders.

    The video quality relies on least amount of compression applied to the vide when it is stored - DV and HDV (on miniDV tape) compress the least.

    MPEG2 and AVCHD compress more... And the AVCHD/.vob files compress the most.

    Start with the least amount of compression when capturing the video... when the editing is done and the project is complete, compress to fit your needs. Starting with a lot of compression up front merely gets you to work with reduced video quality from the start.
