What is the diference in operating cost of gas cars versas electric of same size ?

Electric vehicle operating costs are lower.  For one thing, they have 90% fewer parts than gas cars, so there's less that can break.  They also cost much less to fuel - about 2-3 cents per mile.  A Prius costs 9 cents per mile with gas at  $4.50 per gallon, and a 30 mpg car costs 15 cents per mile.

well in terms of fuel/energy it costs about 2 cents a mile of electricity or like 50 cents a gallon (assuming 25 mpg) as opposed to 4.50 a gallon now.

maintenance wise? virtually nothing. no oil changes, no replacing parts. except maybe the battery after 5-10 years

To add, The replacement costs at this time would be very expensive if something were to go wrong with the motor. I am all for electric.

I don't know about electric cars, but I have a Crown Vic that runs on natural gas, and it's only 64 CENTS per gallon, so I can go 23 miles for 64 cents in my Crown Vic, or go 23 miles in a gasoline-powered Crown Vic and pay about $4.15. Big difference over the course of a year's driving! Also, fewer oil changes are needed with the natural gas version due to the engine running much, much cleaner.

Well, no maintainance that is associated with a gasoline engine/transmission.

You will still have chassis type stuff needing replaced at the same interval: tires, shocks/struts, springs, ball joints, CV joints etc...

Brakes will be less frequent with REGEN.

With the added current associated with 300-400 volts, you will have a small army of fuses, relays, solenoids, capacitors that can wear/blow/fry/short.  This is of course an unknown since the EV1 was only around for a short time and didn't experience any such problem.  But I can see in the 5+ year mark such components going bad with some frequency, I replace this stuff all the time on electric machines that aren't even that old and with lower voltage.
