  1. I have to agree with Secret S.  AF provide a lot nicer living quarters than the Army.

    AF uniforms look better too.

  2. Promotions, leadership, discipline, and self respect.

I work next door to an Airman with the same time in service as me.  He is very good at his job, and presents a good military appearance.  He is an E-5, and I am an E-7.  This is not unusual for Soldiers to be promoted faster than Airmen.

I have been universally disappointed with the quality of Officers I have met from the Air Force.  I think that the difference is that USAF Officers are managers and technical leaders, and Army Officers are trained to lead Soldiers in Ground Combat.

Discipline and Self-Respect - many Airmen view the USAF as a job.  Soldiers tend to view the Army as a way of life.

Many people make the mistake of comparing an average Soldier with an average Airman.  Be sure to compare the Soldiers and Airmen with similar jobs.

And before you say, "the Air Force is more technical,"  talk to the kid in Services, handing out towels in the gym for 4 years.

  3. Duty station locations.

  4. USAF personnel don't get shot at nearly as often.

  5. After 10 years in the Army... I could tell you. Air Force treatment is the best out of all the branches. AF bases are well taken care off. A person who just join the AF will get a better room than a Sergeant in the Army. However, when it comes to promotion... it's quite slow. You have to study hard to get ahead... unlike the Army... do your time. So... if you want to be happy with a low income... the Air Force is the way to go. But if you want to make some money... Army. I'm a E-7 with 10 years in the service. Most E-7 in the Air Force will do on an average of 14-20 years before making the rank. If I could do my life again... I would have gone Commission Officer in the Air Force.
