What is the differance between a couch and a sofa?

i need to buy some slip covers, but i don't know the differance between a couch and a sofa...is there any?

honestly i dont think there is a difference there just is two names for one thing such as: water and aqua or trash and garbage

There is no difference.

It's just that it's a different way to say it. Like

"Thank You" and "Thanks" same meaning, different word.
