What is the differance between the afc and the nfc football leagues?

There is basically no difference between the two. They are just different conferences in the same league. Back in the 1890's was when the NFL was started. In 1960 Lamar Hunt, an owner, wanted to get into the NFL and was denied. Therefore him and 7 others started the AFL. On June 8th, 1966 the two leagues merged. Most of the teams that were the AFL then became the AFC. So there it is in a nutshell.

There is no difference between the two leagues no rule difference or anything like baseball.  The only thing is that the playoffs are separate and each sends one team to the super bowl.

The American Football League and the National Football League used to be two seperate entities. When they merged they left two seperate divisions to keep a rivalry going.

The AFC and NFC are just conferences in the NFL.  There is really no difference except that in the AFC you will find more traditional rivalries from the old American Football League like Oakland and Kansas City, Oakland and San Diego, Miami and NY Jets, Buffalo and NY, etc  The NFC is made up of all old NFL teams like Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota, Dallas, NY Giants, etc.  For balance some of the old NFL teams made their way to the "A" side like Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and the Colts.  

But for today's game there is no difference.  They are all part of the NFL and determine which two teams meet for the Super Bowl.  One team from the AFC and one from the NFC.
