What is the difference: Advertising, Sponsors & Partners?

Question

This question is in reference to Websites and how webmasters/owners make money - specifically networking community website (My example would be in the health field – but I think any industry would work the same.).

What are the differences between each or do they basically mean the same but just different words? I am interested in putting the above up on my website but am not sure what they really mean and or how to explain it to a potential client and or prospect.

Any help would be great!

Advertising is the generic name  for anything to do with advertising. From the ad itself to writing and thinking of the ad.

Sponsors are the people who want the product mentioned

Partners are the investors that supply the money to get the ad going.
