What is the difference b/w a diesel engine and an I.C. engine?

A diesel is an Internal Combustion engine.

A diesel engine uses heat generated by high compression to ignite an air/fuel mixture, a gasoline engine uses a spark plug to ignite it.

Internal Combustion is common in whether diesel or petrol engine.Diesel engine ignites diesel by compression by the pump on the nozzles whereas in petrol engine the spark plug ignites the petrol.
