  1. 2,3,4,5 etc. way speakers refers to how many drivers the speakers have.  A sub is mono axial which means it's got one driver. A coaxial(2 way) speaker has a woofer and a tweeter.  A triaxial(3 way) has a woofer and 2 tweeters and so on an so forth.
