I am going into Grade 11 in Canada and I was wondering the difference between advanced math and academic math. Will it effect my future if I go into academic math? Will it keep me from certain types of jobs? From university? If you have any information regarding this could you please answer my question, I would really like to know the answer.

  1. Advanced math 11 is required for advanced math 12 and advanced math 12 is required for pre-calculus, which is required for calculus (atleast in Nova Scotia). If you plan on going to university, and plan on doing sciences, pre-calculus is sometimes required for certain courses. It would be best to speak to your school counselor so you can make the right decision though.

  2. Well I do not go to school in Canada, but I would say that Academic Math is what is required for school (like high school) (Algebra I, II, Geometry, Arithmetic) and Advanced Math is beyond that, such as Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and college-level math.
