  1. . BetacamSX uses MPEG2  temporal video compression. It records a very low bit rate, about 10 Mbps. It was designed as an inexpensive replacement for BetacamSP for non-critical applications. While using the same Betacam size shell, it doubles the recording time by moving the tape at half-speed. This precludes the use of linear track audio, so audio is recorded digitally as well.

    DigiBeta uses a DV like codec with no temporal compression and a high 100 Mbps data rate. DigiBeta is a competitive format with JVC D9 and Panasonic D5.

    BetacamSX and DigiBeta are distinguished from miniDV and its variants by the use of 422 sampling making conversion to and from SDI more precise.
