A Briton would be Cymric,Kernowec(?),Pict or Pre-Viking Isle of Man inhabitant.The Gaels came later.

British refers to the modern inhabitants-Post Anglo Saxon,Norman Invasion(!?)

It is not Briton,  it is Britain, also known as Great Britain,also

United Kingdom Of Great Britain.

First , i was only referring to the word BRITAIN and not what is stated on any ones  passport .

I stand by what i put as my answer, BRITAIN is known worldwide as i have stated and you can add another that Britain is known as. UK. I suggest you do a little more research on the matter instead of criticizing other peoples postings and breaking the rules of " yahoo " at least  i and other members answered the question.

"Briton" is the standard noun that corresponds with the adjective "British".  Contemporary speakers, however, often use the term "Brit".

A Briton is someone who is from Britain. British refers to anything or anyone from Britain. So a Briton is British, It can refer to the ancient celtic inhabitants but also modern day citizens.

The Britons  were the first people we know of in southern Great Britain.  British is named after them.  They were there during the Roman Empire.  They have few decedents today and no pure bloods.
