What is the difference between CANSITER type and BLOWER type of vacuum cleaner ?

I am planning to buy a vacuum cleaner for home. I came across some models. The one which are cheaper are CANISTER type and the others models which are BLOWER type are little expensive. What is the difference ? What are most important specs/feature to be observed while buying them.

I would recommend a canister type, bag-less.  The price of bags for a bag type will cause you to pay for the vacuum twice in a few years.  One with a canister has a filter, but it can be cleaned easily and reused.
