  1. both are the same thing

  2. They are slightly different formats engineered by different companies. The only difference you will notice between the two is that some older CD players are less compatible with one or both of them than newer CD players.

  3. Do you mean DVD-R and DVD+R? As far as I knew there was no distinction with CD's.

With the DVD's it's all about which ones your DVD player will support. The most universal and higher quality is a DVD+R. If you are trying to decide between them, I would recommend the DVD+R as they are more accepted and better quality.

  4. CD-R is a WORM disk. This means Write Once, Read Many times. In fact it has to conform with virtually all CD-Rom conventions in order to be readable by CD-Rom drives and software. CD-RW is basically a re-useable CD-R disk. It behaves exactly like a slow CD-R disk, with all the same CD-Rom restrictions required by the standard, with the exception that it can when required, be wiped (formatted), and reused, theoretically thousands of times, in practice, because of the deterioration of the disk due to handling by the drive and the user, these disks are generally only useable 3 or 4 times before they start becoming unreliable for data storage. Technically, they are very different technologies, RW being much slower and the dye used is a different colour frequency to that used in cd-Rs, thus they can not be relied upon to be readable in CD-Rom drives. Because of the price and speed differentials, and the very short useful life of CD-RWs, not to mention the fact that they are not a portable format, (They are not designed to work in other than CD-RW drives), CD-RW is not exactly a preferred format, CD-Rs are cheap, reliable and fast, all in all, far superior to CD-RW.

  5. Essentially no difference. They are two different formats that do the same thing and most devices are now made to redord/playback both.
