I know that CKC is Continental kennel club & that AKC is American kennel club. Is one better than the other? What about cross registering puppies... if one parent is AKC & the other is CKC how do you register the litter?

I'm not a breeder nor am I wishing to breed ~ I'm just curious that's all.

  1. CKC (Continental Cennel Club) is a scam registry, they'll register anything. I could take a picture of a rat and register it as a chihuahua and they'd do it.

    AKC is a reputable registry.

AKC won't touch CKC papers with a 10 foot pole.

CKC will cross register from another other registry or register the dog even if the dog isn't registered at all previously.

    ADD:

The AKC is not the *only* reputable registry in the United States. The UKC is also a reputable multi-breed registry, and for some breeds, the only choice since certain breeds aren't AKC recognized.

When accepting a new breed, AKC accepts UKC records for foundation stock.

There are also single-breed registries and group registries that are reputable. You can see a listing of domestic registries AKC has open registration for here:

  2. Everyone has it absolutely right - except roxyang,

but then anyone who would think it's wonderful

to breed wolf hybrids sure would support a scam registry.

Nobody knocks mutts - nobody, they can be great pets

but anybody who breeds more on purpose when there

are so many being killed for lack of homes is either blind and deaf or completely callous.

  3. CKC is a c**p registry that will register anything and means nothing just a wast of money. AKC is the only reputable registry in the US never bred any dog with a dog that is registered CKC because you never know if the dog is a pure bred dog they could have anything in their ancestry. Never buy a dog that is CKC registered as you do not know what it truly is.

  4. CKC will register anything and isn't a reputable registry.  If you've got a litter where one parent is registered with CKC, you can't register the puppies with AKC.  AKC is the only reputable registry in the US.

  5. The Canadian Kennel Club is an organization comparable to the American Kennel Club.  It hosts similar events and breed competitions.  But puppies sold in the USA as CKC registered may just be Continental Kennel Club,  in which case the papers are not worth the paper they're printed on.  Cont. Kennel club will register anything, including mixed breeds as long as they get their $$$.  The AKC has its limitations in that any purebred dog with registered parents can be registered however poor a specimen of the breed it may be.  But they do attempt to maintain the integrity of the breeds.

  6. The AKC is the only reputable registry in the United States. The CKC is a c**p registry. It will register almost any dog that appears to be a purebred even if it isn't. All it really takes is a picture and a witness saying the dog is purebred. The CKC isn't worth it, and no responsible breeder would use it.

When one parent is AKC and the other is CKC, you can't register the litter with either one. Both parents must be registered with same registry.

  7. wow these people get up in arms about this stuff!! i have a wolf hybrid and he is smarter and more beautiful then any purebred dog ive come in contact with. I love mutts they are so loveable!
