I'm going to Los Cabos San Lucas in April and I was wondering if it is the same thing as "Cabo."

I'm staying at the Royal Solaris Los Cabos.. Is that a nice hotel?

Can you swim in the ocean there?

  1. Easy.

"Cabo" means "cape". There are two main capes in Baja California Sur state: Cabo San Lucas ("Saint Luke cape") and San José del Cabo ("Saint Joseph cape"). So, there are two capes, therefore, the whole touristic area in southern Baja California Sur is called in spanish "Los Cabos" wich means "the capes", in plural, refering to both capes.

It is NOT Los Cabos San Lucas; it is Cabo San Lucas.

"Los Cabos" includes the area within Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.

And, yes, you can swim in the ocean there.

  2. Bangalood is right, but

Los Cabos is the name of the Municipality and inside there is the Towns of San Jose del Cabo, and Cabo San Lucas, they are not far from each other like 20 miles or so and in between  you will find all types of resorts along the beach.

Yes there are beaches that are not dangerous to swim

  3. Hola.  I live right next door to the Royal Solaris resort.  We are in a town called San Jose del Cabo, which is 20 minutes from the town Cabo San Lucas.  You travel along the highway 'corridor' to reach it.  This entire area is referred to as "Los Cabos".

The Royal Solaris is a gorgous, huge, lovely resort.  It is located on the beach called Costa Azul.  Some days, the surf can be a little rough with undertow and rip tides, so they will post flags on the days you cannot swim there.  It doesn't matter, because the pool area makes up for it!  Its fabulous.  The little town of San Jose del Cabo is a 7 minute walk away and cute with little shops and restaurants.  Its quiet though.  If you want to nightclub you must travel to Cabo to go to the popular nightclubs like Cabo Wabo.

    Have a great vacation!

  4. Cobo is the shorter name of Cabo San Lucas.

Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo are in Los Cabos County.

Royal Solaris is located in San Jose del Cabo, right in the main beach, and I will never swim there, but it's nice to walk.

Royal Solaris is all inclusive, food and service is good, but people always complain about the drinks, the cheapest available, to keep cost low.

Palmilla beach is the closest to go for a swim, about 5 minutes driving trough Cabo San Lucas. About half way is Chileno Bay, even nicer to swim, and excellent spot for snorkeling.

I will recommend you the Bar Hoping tour to Cabo San Lucas, they take care of the transportation, and drinks in the hot spots, for $50 USD.

Enjoy Cabo (Cabo San Lucas & San Jose del Cabo)

  5. Los Cabos is the name of a large area which includes Cabo San Lucas, San Jose and the Touristic Corridor.  The Royal Solaris is in San Jose which happens to be about 45 minutes from Cabo San Lucas.  I know a few people who have stayed there and they really liked it.  A couple said the food wasn't that great but a lot of all inclusives don't have great food.  The water in all of Los Cabos is really rough at times you can go in but make sure you are with a group of people there have been a lot of people who have drowned.  I am sure that you are really going to love Los Cabos everything is so beautiful.  If you haven't already booked your trip I would reccoment the Riu which in 5 minutes from the town of Cabo San Lucas and the food there is really good.  Anyway have a great time.
