  1. Christianity is one part of the Catholic religion

  2. It all depends on whether you believe God the Father, Jesus Christ His son and the Holy Ghost the Comforter Jesus promised to leave on Earth when He was killed are all One Big Spiritual Being or Three separate distinct Beings with the same purpose, to help bring every person that came to earth to receive a body and make righteous choices in order to bring their lives in line with God's will in order to become worthy to enter His presence again.

Maybe I can help answer some of Lifes Biggest questions: Check out http://www.mormon.org

  3. It sort of depends who the other Christians are.

Whether it's an Anglican or a Pentecostal makes a huge difference...

  4. "Mainstream" Christians believe what the Nicene Creed states, pure and simple.

Roman Catholics add a lot of other stuff to that- including the Pope is the Rep of Christ here on earth- priests offer the daily unbloody sacrifice on the alter at Mass- they actually eat the body and blood of Jesus. Mary is also elevated to Queen of Heaven Status.  You have to do and take rites and sacraments or you do not get to Heaven.

Other than that, both are Christian.

  5. Catholics are a type of Christian. Catholics have the Eucharist (the RISEN JESUS!) on our altars during Mass and in our tabernacles.

We also believe in devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary:

    http://www.medjugorje.org/rosary.htm

The fifteen promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:

    1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.

    2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.

    3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against h**l, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

    4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

    5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

    6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God and become worthy of eternal life.

    7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.

    8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in Paradise.

    9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

    10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit high degree of glory in Heaven.

    11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.

    12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

    13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.

    14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son, Jesus Christ.

    15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

    God bless!

  6. Christians (followers of Christ) are the whole term; like saying Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc., it encompasses the "general" meaning.

Catholics are a branch of Christianity, like saying Orthodox Jew, Sunni Muslim, etc.

The Catholics, however, were the monopoly from the start of it all (325 A.D.), till Martin Luther's 95-Thesis (1517 A.D.), challenged the Catholic church for literally selling purgatory (pay the church tax and maybe go to heaven), which lead to the Protestant Reformation, a break from the Catholic monopoly.

  7. Ah ha, finally, someone worded the question correctly.

First off would be that the Catholic church was created by Jesus, the other Christian sects were created by man.

Second Transubstantiation and the Real Presence.  We believe that the Eucharist is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus.

Third We have 7 Sacraments, rather than just two

Fourth We baptize our babies to remove the stain of original sin and to initiate them into the church.

Fifth We are the ones who put the bible together, the protestants took books out that they didn't agree with.

Sixth Apostolic Succession, we can trace our leader the Pope, all the way back to St Peter, who was the first Pope.

Seventh Sacred Tradition along with the Scriptures

Eighth The intercession of Mary and the Saints

Ninth We believe that if a person through no fault of their own does not know Jesus, yet lives a life that is in line with what Jesus taught, then that person will go to heaven

Tenth Purgatory, for cleansing of our temporal sins before we go to heaven.

  8. Catholics represent an historical Christian succession from the early Roman Church. It has a full set doctrines and beliefs and also in it's higher forms is quite intellectual.

Evangelical movements are individuals who take the Bible literally without a framework to understand it in. This grew out of the historical Christian movement called Lutherianism.

  9. Every one else broke off from their wrong ideas. Or at least it looks that way.

  10. *******drink*************

  11. Catholicism is the first and only true church of the Lord.

  13. Chier was mostly right except for the following statements:

RC believe that priests, Mary, and dead ‘saints’are mediators.

This is an incorrect statement.  Catholic teaching:

The cross is the unique sacrifice of Christ, the "one mediator between God and men" - http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p122a4p2.h...

Catholics see that Mary and the saints are intercessors.

Transubstantiation re crucifies Christ at the communion.

Incorrect.  The Eucharist is an unbloody sacrifice in which Jesus Christ gives Himself to us.

Pope canonizes those to be called ‘saints’.

PT say all believers are saints [Philippians 1:1]

In teh Catholic Church some people are given the title of Saint as an honor to them.  Catholics also believe that all believers are saints.

RC believe Peter was not married.

Not true.  We recognize that Peter was married and the first Pope.  Priestly celibacy became a rule much later.

Justification pronounced as anathema by Council of Trent.

PT believe that Christians are justified by faith alone [Romans 3:28]

Not true.  Catholics teach Justification is the most excellent work of God's love made manifest in Christ Jesus and granted by the Holy Spirit.  http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s1c3a2.h...

RC claim that Peter was the ‘rock’ on which the church was founded.

PT believe that only Christ is that Rock [1 Corinthians 3:11; 10:4; 1 Peter 2:8]]

Yes, in these verses, it is clear that Jesus is the Rock.  In another verse, Jesus clearly calls Peter the Rock.

If you want to know what Catholics believe, ask a Catholic.

  14. "What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

    http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontif...

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

    With love in Christ.

  15. One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church

    All Catholics are Christian

  16. Here's to the wine we love to drink, and the food we like to eat.

Here's to our wives and sweethearts, let's pray they never meet.

Here's champagne for our real friends And real pain for our sham friends.

And when this life is over, may all of us find peace.

  17. Where to begin...

Essentially, Catholicism can trace its history right to Jesus Christ.  We Catholics believe we are the true historical church which Jesus Christ founded in the apostles, possessing and practicing the full seven sacraments given to us by Christ.  We recognize that the saints and Mary, the mother of our Savior Jesus Christ, far from being dead, are more alive in Christ now then we are, for they have passed from this valley of death into the light of the Eternal Day and behold the very face of God.  Catholics believe that all whom are living or have passed on, are united in one family in Christ.  Even those whom have died, like the saints, live in Him, for He is as the water of Eternal Life itself, of which all are invited to freely partake.

During the Reformation, protestantism did split off from the Roman Catholic Church.  This wasn't entirely without reason.  There was a certain amount of lax attitudes and a number of abuses going on in the church at that time.  The Roman Catholic Church is composed of human beings with faults and has never pretended that its members were without fault.  In fact, the Catholic Church says quite the opposite, She holds, and we catholics believe the Church to be the haven of sinners, it is the Church where humanity may come to be restored in Christ Jesus.  So, it is understandable that all of us will fail at some time or another.  Even the earliest members of the Roman Catholic Church, the apostles, ran away when our Savior was crucified, one betraying Him even unto death.  Even though the institution herself is the Bride of Christ, her members are still sinners and will make mistakes.  We have seen abuses within the church even in our own day, but we must confront such abuses and recognize that they go against the teachings and spirit of the Church itself.  That is why splitting away from the Church is a grave mistake and why the Reformation is a travesty for both Catholics and Protestants.  We Catholics long for the reunion of our brethren under the fold of our Mother Church.

As one post noted, the majority of Christians hold to the tenets of the Creed of Nicea.  What that poster failed to recognize is that the Council of Nicea was an early church council of the Roman Catholic Church.  This is the Creed which has united Christendom under its banner for nearly two milenia:

"We believe (I believe) in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and born of the Father before all ages. (God of God) light of light, true God of true God. Begotten not made, consubstantial to the Father, by whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And was incarnate of the Holy Ghost and of the Virgin Mary and was made man; was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried; and the third day rose again according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father, and shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, of whose Kingdom there shall be no end. And (I believe) in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who together with the Father and the Son is to be adored and glorified, who spoke by the Prophets. And one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We confess (I confess) one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for (I look for) the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen." - Creed of Nicea

  18. Another noteworthy difference is that Protestant churches teach that you only need faith to be saved and gain salvation.  Roman Catholic, though, says you have to have faith plus go through other  rituals, like praying the rosary.

  19. Some of the differences between the Roman Church (RC) and Protestants (PT):

RC use Apocryphal books and tradition as having equal authority with Scripture.

PT accept Protestant Bible only, as the final authority [2 Timothy 3:16] and believe traditions cause error [Matthew 15:3]

RC believe Mary was a perpetual virgin.

PT believe the Bible that she had several children [Mark 6:3]

RC believe Mary was without sin.

PT believe only Jesus was without sin [Romans 5:12]

RC believe that priests, Mary, and dead ‘saints’ are mediators.

PT believe that only one person, Jesus, is mediator [1 Timothy 2:5]

RC believe in transubstantiation at the communion.

PT believe Christ died only once [Hebrews 6:6] and transubstantiation re-crucifies Christ.

RC Pope canonizes those to be called ‘saints’.

PT say all believers are saints [Philippians 1:1]

RC believe Peter was not married.

PT stand by the Bible that he was married [Mark 1:30]

RC Justification by faith alone pronounced an anathema by Council of Trent.

PT believe that Christians are justified by faith alone [Romans 3:28]

RC claim that Peter was the ‘rock’ on which the church was founded.

PT believe that only Christ is that Rock [1 Corinthians 3:11; 10:4; 1 Peter 2:8]
