  1. In counted cross stitch, you count the threads on the fabric to determine where the threads intersect.  At the intersection of the threads you place a cross stitch. No design is printed on the fabric.

    With crewel embroidery the outline of the design is printed on the fabric and a  variety of different stitches are used to fill in the design.
