  1. They are similar, but different formats for recordable DVD's.  there are advantages and disadvantages for both.

    DVD-R:

Pros:  Most compatible in regular DVD players... was the first recordable format supported, so older DVD players are more likely to read this format as opposed to the newer DVD+R format.

Cons:  Since it was the first technology, the disk format is slightly more likely to degrade over time or develop errors... it is somewhat less reliable a format as DVD+R.

    DVD+R:

Pros:  Slightly more reliable with data redundancy to protect against errors or degradation over time.  It is considered to be a better backup medium between the two for that reason. DVD+R is also the format for "dual layer" DVD+R's, which have double the data capacity of regular recordable DVD's.  Many movies will not fit on a regular DVD+-R without compression, but will fit fine on a "dual layer" DVD+R

Cons:  May not work on older DVD players.

If you don't need to worry about playing your recordables on an older DVD player, and if the costs aren't much more, then the DVD+R is probably the way to go, although the differences are small (as outlined above).  It all depends on what you need and whether there is a cost benefit by going with one over the other.

    Have fun!

  2. idk dvd+r?

  3. There are some low level differences, between DVD-R and DVD+R, but none that most users would ever notice.  Most drives are DVD±RW anyway and handle both.

DVD-R is older however and generally considered more compatible as a result.

For practical purposes, finding a drive that reads one and not the other is pretty difficult as almost everything is ±.
