  1. alzheimer's is a form of dementia.


  2. Alzheimer's is one particular type of dementia.  It's caused by plaques and tangles in the brain.

    But there are a number of other types of dementia one can have: one can have a lot of mini-strokes, and the accumulated damage could cause dementia. Or one could have dementia related to Parkinson's disease. Or Huntington's chorea.
