  1. The High Commission is the functional equivalent of an Embassy, but tied to Commonwealth countries.


  2. There can be only one Embassy but more than one High Commissions in a country.

  3. The Embassy (of a Commonwealth Country) in a Commonwealth Country is called a High Commission. It is called an Embassy in all other (Non Commonwealth) Countries.

    Examples - Indian High Commission in London; British High Commission in New Delhi - Indian Embassy in Washington D.C.; American Embassy in New Delhi.
