  1. the difference is $74.01, the quality of an HDMI cable doesn't matter until your using a screen 42 in or bigger then you going to want to get the better cable.

  2. Also factors such as wire guage, shielding on each individual wire inside the cable, and materials used for the cable. Also testing done of the cable to verify that it can handle any outside interference. Usually any cable should do, its minor details that will prove the difference (color problems, quality of picture etc)

  3. Probably the size and quality of the cable. Oh and the brand, too. ;)

  4. I bought 3 hdmi cables with shipping that came to $12 on E bay, The picture quality thru them is fantastic !

  5. With digital signal cables such as HDMI, it really doesn't matter.  All you're paying for with the $80 cable is the fact that is says Monster on it.  Go for the $5.99!

  6. Mostly it's differences in the materials, labour costs, care in design, and advertizing costs --- but largely it's simply greed.

There may be differences in the weight and stiffness of the cables, possibly the presence or absence of a strain relief at the connector, possibly a more refined look/feel to the connectors or the cable itself, but from a performance perspective HDMI cables will work almost identically at short lengths. The more expensive cable may allow a successful connection of a higher resolution signal at longer distance.

See the article at the link for a good discussion. The conclusion is that for most uses a budget cable will perform essentially identically to the more expensive version.
