  1. Do not buy a monster cable. You will not get any benefit that you can't get from a less expensive cable. Seriously less expensive. There was a test they gave awhile back where people couldn't tell the difference between monster cables, and a pair of coat hangers that people had used.

  2. Monster will not release the technical specs of their cables so you can tell the difference. I'm afraid they use a lot of marketing c**p and "junk science" to get you to pay for the higher priced item.

(I have emailed them but like Bose - they feel technical information would simply confuse most consumers so they want you to consult the nice sales person who has been trained to answer your questions.)

For a real education - go read the technical info at www.bluejeanscables.com or the Belden or Canare website.

BlueJeans will build you a cable with this stuff normally sold to TV studios for a lot less than the retail monster price.  (This is what I have in my system - A Canare component cables and Belden based HDMI cable).

  3. One has claws while the other has atomic breath

  4. jack99 is correct, AVSforum actualy reprinted that article where a wire coathanger and Monster brand audio cables were used and nobody could tell the difference between the two.

Monster is all about advertising.  Don't get me wrong Monster makes good products but at huge, huge markups.

i would buy all my cables online at sites like Monoprice.com, Partsexpress.com or Bluejeancables.com  When i was younger I bought into that Monster is the best B.S. but now that I am much older and wiser, I have bought most of my cables online and done side by side comparsions and the only difference between the two is price.

You can pay up to 150.00 for a six foot HDMI Monster cable or 4.00 for a six foot Internet cable, that has the same thickness, same shielding and same length and end connections, but for 4.00 and no tax online.  Save your money and spend it on what will make a difference in sound quality.  Acoustic Absorbers or picture quality.  Get your set isf calibrated.  These will do more to give you better audio and video than any overpriced cable will, and don't listen to any salesman in the store, they work on commision and rewards from Monster to push their gear.

Go to any A/V website and they all agree that internet brands are just as good and cheaper and Monster is way overpriced.
