What is the difference between NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the EU, European Union? PLEASE answer ASAP!!

NATO is a military alliance, while the EU is a political & economic one.  Also, the US and Canada belong to NATO, but not the EU, and a number of eastern-european countries have joined or are trying to join the EU, but not NATO.

NATO is a military organization set up after the second world war, in an attempt to stop conflict on such a large scale ever happening again. The members of NATO agree to act as one, and defend each other should a country from outside the organization attack a member state.

Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United States.

The EU is a political and economic community consisting of 27 member states, which can trace it's origins back to the EEC. The EU creates a single market, which in turn makes the continent (all member states) stronger in economic terms.  The EU Generates 31% of the worlds GDP $16.6 trillion US dollars.
