What is the difference between Nursery School and Preschool?

from what i have always understood nursery school was for like the baby aged kids and preschool is for like the pre-k kids.preschool usually lasts for about a year unless the child has special needs. kids that have special needs like speech problem, writing problems,some kind of physical or mental problems. each school is different from one another when it comes to having a pre-k class. at my kid's school there is no pre-k class but other schools in my area has a pre-k class.

Nursery School = Preschool. The only difference is the name, but it's typically referred to as preschool. A child usually attends preschool at age 4 or 5, kindergarten as of 5 or 6 (depending on when the child turned 5 or 6, the time of the year is important here), and typically begins 1st grade at age 6 or 7. All students must require kindergarten, but Preschool is optional in many districts.

A nursery school and a pre-school are basically the same thing.  The age at which your child enters pre-school really depends on their needs and abilities.  Pre-school is a great way for an only child to become "socialized," and for any child to become more accustomed to a school-like environment before heading into Kindergarten.  Also, some pre-school helps children learn some basics, such spelling their names, counting to 20, shapes, and colors.

Personally, my younger brother and I both started attending pre-school at age 3, and stayed there until Kindergarten at age 5.

the way that i understand it, is that they are pretty much the same, i might be wrong but maybe nursery school is a little more like day care with less academics and preschool focuses more on academics, i think it really depends on the individual schools. as for how long before kindergarten, most school districts require students to be five by a certain age before they are able to enroll in kindergarten, i know that in CA if your child will be 5 by december 1 they are allowed to enroll for the school year beginning that august/september. public schools don't base whether a student can attend school based on ability, but on age.
